FAQs

We have a Spring and a Fall season.  Typically, the Spring season games start around the end of March and run for six weeks.  The Spring season ends before Mother’s Day weekend.  The Fall season starts in early to mid-September, runs for six weeks, and ends around mid to late October.

---

Typically, two weeks before games.

---

Typically, on a Saturday morning/afternoon, but there is a possibility that you may have a game on Friday evenings.

---

Game day weekends rotate around the county and may be played in Delta, Orchard City, Hotchkiss, or Paonia.

---

Practice and games in Paonia are held at Volunteer Park on Mathews Lane.

---

Individual coaches set their own practice schedule.  Many teams hold practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but there are also teams that practice Mon/Wed or on Wed/Fri.  There is no way to determine ahead of time on what day you may have practice.  Most ages typically practice for an hour, twice a week.

---

After teams are split, coaches will get their rosters and will call their own players to let them know when practice starts.  Typically two weeks before the first game.

---

All players must have shin guards and tall sock that cover the shin guards.  Each player must purchase a jersey from Lasting Impressions.  All Paonia teams wear the same reversible jersey.  It is not required to purchase cleats, but most players will be wearing them.  Football style cleats that have a center toe cleat are not allowed.  Athletic shoes are acceptable, no boots.  Players must wear shoes.  Black shorts are typically worn, no pants.

---

Players are split evenly between teams based on age and gender.

---

Of course, just add a note to your soccer form with that request, but keep in mind that all teams must have equal numbers and some requests may not be able to be fulfilled.

---

See answer 6 above.

---

Absolutely not.  Our state sanctioning organization does not allow anyone to “play down” an age for any reason.

---

Yes, kids are allowed to “play up” an age group if deemed appropriate by the club and the lending/receiving coaches.

---

There will be some overlap and possible conflicts.  If you choose to play two sports, please let your coach know that you are doing so, and if there is a conflict, which sport is your primary choice.

---

No.

---

Our soccer year starts in the fall.  If you are a U8 player in the Fall, you will remain a U8 player in the Spring.  However, next Fall, you may have to move up to U10 based on your age.  With kids of different ages in the same grade, it is possible that kids must move up, while others remain in the lower age group, even though they are in the same grade in school.

---

See the birth date chart on our forms.  8U typically means 8 and under.  Same for the other ages.

---

In recent years, we have not had enough older players sign up in Paonia to form a U14 age team.  Players may be able to join a Hotchkiss team if available.

---

We are busy processing forms from many families.  You may not hear from anyone until 3 weeks prior to the first game.

---

We are an organized league with rules, referees, and volunteer staff.  We are sanctioned by the Colorado Soccer Association and United States Youth Soccer.  We are only allowed to play against other sanctioned teams and all players must be registered with CSA for liability purposes.

---

DCYSA is an informal group comprised of individual clubs or recreation districts from Paonia, Hotchkiss, Surface Creek, and Delta.  We all plan our seasons together and play each other.

---

Delta County Youth Soccer has a competitive program that plays in the Mountain Region League.  Tryouts are held in June for U11-U12 and U13-U15 players.  Teams are gender specific.  Additional costs and travel are required to play in this league.  Contact your club representative for more information.
